Corsa Team PR1 is the Fastest BMW in GT at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FL. -
After back-to-back yellow flag plagued morning practice sessions, Max Hyatt of San Jose, CA, posted Corsa Team PR1's fastest lap time of the day with a 1:49.968. Not only was this time good enough for an eighth place starting position, but it also distinguished the #32 Corsa Car Care Products BMW M6 as the the fastest BMW qualified in the 28 car GT field. The accomplishment is made all the more impressive seeing that this is only Corsa Team PR1's second Rolex 24 at Daytona and it is Max Hyatt's first appearance at the legendary event.
Averaging 116.543 mph around the 3.56-mile, 12-turn speedway road course, Hyatt dramatically saved his best lap for the end of the session after posting six consecutively faster laps in the eight lap qualifying session. Despite being a first time competitor at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Hyatt has the most experience in the M6, a fact that largely contributed to him being selected by the team to qualify and start the #32 on Saturday's main event.
Hyatt quickly overcame the lack of practice time this morning and focused on achieving a personal goal he has had for months.
"We came in with a really good car, and just continued to improve despite all the yellow flags this morning," Hyatt said. "I'm very proud that the team put their faith in me to qualify the car and start the race, possibly in the rain. I just took the first lap a little slow to find my bearings and get the tires up to speed. After that I could feel myself getting more confident with the car and each lap really felt faster. Since the December test, I wanted to get a lap time below 1:50. I'm very proud of getting a Top-10 spot, and for having the fastest BMW of the session, but getting a lap in the 1:49s is great."
Team owner Bobby Oergel is pleased with the qualifying effort, but knows a larger task is now at hand.
"I saw that the times were getting faster and faster, which is indicative of how the tires come in," Oergel said. "Max put up his fast lap at the perfect time, and he probably could have gone even faster if it hadn't been for a little traffic at the end. He did a great job, especially for a rookie, and we're all very happy with the way our week is going so far. Thomas, Jeff, Rob, and Max are getting more seat time tonight and the crew has everything handled. Qualifying P8 is great for the team, but now we have to focus on performing at this level for 24 hours."
